The Thirteen Days of Christmas

I have a good book for you all, I don't hand pick to many individually like this. But I almost think that this would make a great movie, sort of like a Jane Austin movie or something. We just finished up The Thirteen Days of Christmas by Jenny Overton. I hate to spoil it for you, so you can read about on Amazon if you like, but the kids and I giggled at the whole thing. It goes right along with the song about the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Our parish Tet festival

We have a large Vietnamese community at our parish and every year following the lunar calendar they have a Tet festival. This was our first time attending and we took my parents along. It was awesome! I posted a video on my Facebook page (warning firecrackers...a lot!) of the procession across from the church with our pastor being escorted by two lions (I keep calling them dragons). The lions chase away the evil spirits...aka the devil! We enjoyed the beautiful celebration. This was way better than any New Years party I have ever attended.

I really appreciate the modesty in all the clothing and dance. It's not at all like our high school pom pom teams... (no offense to any bumper shakers)

Happy New Year!

Genna's project talk

How to Make a Chicken Feed Tote Bag.

I digress...

We cleaned my machine..still needs a tune up.

It's coming along. If you are interested in how to make these animal feed tote bags, there are great YouTube Videos available that explain it very simply step by step with no guessing.

Yes a 7 year old can use a sewing machine alone.

She received a purple ribbon at county 4-h days for her demonstration talk.

She gave the talk again at her local club meeting. So proud!

Our First Confession and First Communion Notebooks.

I finally got around to taking pictures of the inside of our notebooks for you to see. It's not an existential experience putting these together or anything really terribly exciting- you're over thinking it!!
Just start saving your kids (religion) work, Holy Heroes coloring pages, the Advent and Lent Adventures books and pages,  and organize it in a neat way in a binder. I have links to the free pages we printed out to help us along the way- I am pretty sure I got them all in there. Really if you are teaching them their prayers and studying the First Communion Catechism you're doing enough. But this is the physical evidence of your fruits to SHOW the priest what you have been doing outside of your curriculum.

Work from Catechesis of the Good Shepherd over the years.

Free printable worksheets- I have listed on my main page for First Communion. Holy Heroes Stations of the Cross Certificate.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Work. Hand print angel from Catholic Icing.

7 Sacraments work from Shower of Roses and 7 Sacraments File Folder game from the Catholic Family Conference Children's program.

The inside of the game is a matching game.

Art he made on his own and from Catholic Icing. Smooshed since it's in his notebook.

The Act of Contrition is mine.

Genna's notebook now- pretty similar in content.

Writing Prayers from Catholic Icing.

Same pages as Knox.

Grapes and Wheat from Catholic Icing.

Pretty much anything you feel is relevant to your child's religious formation is fair game. You want to show evidence of your studying.

Our priest met with both our kids for about 15 minutes. He went over general catechism stuff, prayers, 10 Commandments, who is present in the Eucharist, and then randomly a few things he saw in their notebooks he asked questions about. Fr. Ben asked if they knew how to go to Confession as well and asked me to help them make a good examination of conscience.

On a funny note, Father asked Genna you know your Commandments? How many are there?  She says 7!  lol  My jaw dropped, then she goes oh wait 10! And she listed them all. LOL! Anyway, chalk it up to nervousness. So don't be surprised at what your kids say.
